Day 1 - The Emakoko

The Emakoko is a family-owned and run lodge artfully built into the side of a valley on the Mbagathi River, which borders the Nairobi National Park a 45 minute transfer from both airports in Nairobi city. The Emakoko allows people to start and finish their safari in the wildlife environment they have travelled so far to enjoy.

Days 2, 3, 4 - Ol Donyo Lodge

ol Donyo Lodge is in the heart of the 275,000 acre Mbirikani Group Ranch, located on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills National Park between the Amboseli and Tsavo West National Parks in southeast Kenya. Its location is unrivalled with full views of Mount Kilimanjaro and in the path of traditional wildlife migration routes. It is a lodge rich in history, passion and conservation.

ol Donyo Lodge's founder Richard Bonham had often flown over this spectacular landscape but one day in the 1980s, he was moved to land his Cessna on the open plains and meet the local Maasai. That was only the first of many meetings, before the birth of a pioneering community conservation tourism project. The concept was simple: Richard brings guests to this remote group ranch to participate in safaris, and the Maasai share the benefits. But nothing in Africa is that simple, really. And so began a life-long relationship with the Maasai, the wildlife and the game ranch.

ol Donyo Lodge is a 20-bed lodge, rebuilt and redesigned in 2008, and perched on a hillside, with no two suites or villas the same. What is consistent is the attention to detail, the comfortable yet utterly luxurious decor and the tradition of greatness. Regarded as one of the most attractive lodges in East Africa, ol Donyo Lodge is a place to call home for as long as possible. There is a range of activities available; from cultural visits, Big Five wildlife viewing and tracking, horseback riding and mountain biking - ol Donyo Lodge is a holistic experience

Days 5, 6, 7 - Lewa Wilderness Lodge

Situated near the base of Mt. Kenya - Africa's second tallest mountain - Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya's oldest and most private safari ventures. The Craig family has passed down from one generation to the next a distinct passion for wildlife, conservation and tourism, and they proudly continue to run Lewa Wilderness lodge and Walking Wild camel safaris. This place is as much a home as it is a truly unique and personal safari experience.

The lodge is just nine exclusive rooms: six cottages tucked into the hillside overlooking Lewa's Eastern Marania Valley, plus three garden cottages set amidst the beautiful green lawns. Each room is unique and luxuriously comfortable with the rustic character of a ranch homestead.

The advantage of being located in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is that guests are surrounded by rich game viewing opportunities without the crowds. There is a very good chance of seeing all of the ÒBig FiveÓ and Lewa is one of the only game parks where visitors are almost guaranteed to see the endangered black and white rhinos. With the backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kenya and the diversity of scenery from open plains, rolling hills, valleys, escarpments and rivers, Lewa is a magical place to game drive. Guests are welcome to go for a walk with one of our trained Maasai guides to enjoy the environment from a different perspective. There is nothing more thrilling than watching rhino or elephant grazing in the morning light whilst you are on foot, or following the tracks of a leopard. Walks can be as easy or as hard as you like. Walking Wild is a camel safari outfit based out of Lewa Wilderness. This venture offers guests the unique opportunity to explore by foot the remote valleys, hills and plains of both Lewa and neighbouring Maasai community conservation areas. Guests spend the days walking, whilst the camels and Maasai transport the camp, meeting up each evening for unforgettable nights camping out in the bush.Riding one of the Lewa Wilderness horses allows you to enjoy the wildlife in its most natural form, without the sound of a car engine or the sight of a road Ð itÕs truly quite a privilege. Many of our horses are used to carrying complete beginners enabling even first time riders to enjoy this unique experience. Ride right up next to animals such as giraffe, zebra, impala, waterbuck, eland, ostrich and baboons. Advanced riders are welcome to arrange a more challenging excursion. The weight limit for horse riding is 90kg / 200lb. For a little something out of the ordinary, guests can go for a camel ride led by a Maasai moran. The camel rides offer a great way to take in the scenery from a unique vantage point.

Days 8, 9 - Loldia House

At Loldia House you'll experience the life of Kenya's early settlers. Loldia House is an ideal spot to relax, taste the pleasures of Kenyan country life and explore the Great Rift Valley. There are beautiful views of the dormant volcano, Mount Longonot. Wild animals roam free on the farm and in the evenings hippo munch quietly by the waterside. Loldia House is only a two hour drive from Nairobi and within easy reach of Nairobi's International Airport. It is a perfect place from which to begin your exciting safari holiday around Kenya. It is also conveniently located for day trips to the famous Lake Nakuru National Park. There are now also daily flights on Governors Aviation direct to the Masai Mara.

Day 10, 11, 12 - Mara Plains Camp

Imagine a camp set right in the heart of some of the greatest predator country of Africa... This is Mara Plains Camp, located on the northern border of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in the 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Rarely a night passes without lion roaring nearby, while leopard are regularly found to wander through the camp and cheetah have established territories on the savannah nearby the main area.

Mara Plains Camp is a small, high quality, seven-roomed camp under canvas and on raised decks with sweeping views across Kenya's notable savannahs. It is among the smallest and most personal camps in the Maasai Mara region. It is just one of four camps currently operating within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, which boasts the region's lowest vehicle density with no mini-buses, and lowest ratio of guests to land. Here, it is possible to avoid the high tourist density of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve proper, if desired. In total, guests of Mara Plains have access to over 100,000 acres of low-density vehicle tourism lands as well as an additional 375,000 acres within the Maasai Mara Game Reserve itself.

Mara Plains offers possibly the widest range of activities anywhere in the greater Maasai Mara - early morning, late afternoon and night game drives, balloon safaris (at extra cost), authentic local village visits, wildlife walks and unrivaled access to superior wildlife habitats. Each guest at Mara Plains contributes considerably to the success of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy's flourishing ecosystem; conservation fees paid safeguard this habitat, while supporting over 1,000 Maasai families. This partnership agreement ensures the survival of an astounding volume andvariety of wildlife.
