Snorkel off deserted white sandbanks and into turquoise sea, and sleep in mobile eco fly camps on uninhabited tropical islands. The crew conjures up fresh seafood and traditional cuisine over an open fire under island stars, leaving you free to soak up a once in a lifetime Mozambican Safari. We have been actively involved in northern Mozambique and Ibo Island for the last 19 years. With this knowledge we are able to offer a truly unique Mozambican experience for adventurers, seeking an un-equalled island and cultural exploration in one of the last undeveloped places in Africa.
Days 1 & 2: Arrive Pemba
Road transfer to Mucojo, dhow transfer to Mogundula Island: You will be met at the airport and shown to your transfer vehicle for the approx. 3-hour road transfer to Mucojo. Arrive Mucojo and dhow transfer to Mogundula Island. which provides us with beautiful bird watching, pristine swimming off the sandbank beach and excellent snorkeling. Our mobile camp is set under the shade of trees and you usually have this magical uninhabited island to yourself! Day trip by dhow to the Pangane Peninsula or similar and/or Macaloe Island from camp.
Day 3: Start of Dhow Safari
Mogundula Island to Ulumbwa: Depart Mogundula for your exploration into the Quirimbas Archipelago! Sail into the clearest of blue water with pristine corals below to explore under snorkel. The Ulumbwa river mouth beckons and it is here where fascinating rural fishing villages dot the shore.
Day 4: Day trip to Matemo Island:
Turquoise clear waters and beautiful scenery awaits you en route, but before enjoy an early morning sail up the Ulumbwa estuary viewing a variety of birds & mangroves that thrive in this area. In the afternoon, take a tour through this fishing village. We will stop on the southern tip of Matemo Island and explore this part of the island and return to our camp at Ulumbwa.
Days 5, 6 & 7: Ulumbwa region to Ibo Island:
Probably the most compelling attraction in the Quirimbas, IboÕs 200-year-old ghost town and 16th Century forts make for a fascinating journey to an era long forgotten. Ibo Island lodge has spectacular views over the waterfront and accommodates guests in beautifully simple yet elegant rooms. Historic colonial mansion have been stylishly renovated to accommodate the lodge with various verandas, tropical gardens and a spectacular roof top restaurant. The emphasis at Ibo Island Lodge is on complete relaxation and a base from which to explore this fascinating island.
Day 8: Ibo Island to Pemba for flight out:
